This week as we celebrate all things Love, relationships and maybe even some passion.....I thought how about some of my favorite recipes for bringing the romance. Any of these can be made into a roller bottle and diluted with a carrier oil, or a spray bottle for room or body with distilled water, or place in a diffuser!




Love is in the Air Blend

Have you noticed how so many romantic blends have Ylang Ylang?

Most of the world's Ylang Ylang flower is harvested by some of the hard working natives of Madagascar to produce Ylang Ylang essential oil. The Ylang Ylang flower has been used for centuries in perfumes, religious ceremonies, aromatherapy, and wedding events, and the essential oil produced from this blossom is just as versatile. The many uses and benefits of Ylang Ylang oil can be obtained when used aromatically, topically, and internally. When ingested, Ylang Ylang essential oil has the powerful ability to provide antioxidant support, which makes it a cherished oil for bodily health. Ylang Ylang is frequently used for its external benefits and can promote the appearance of healthy skin and hair. The popular fragrance of Ylang Ylang oil is often used in perfumes and aromatherapy treatments due to its rich scent and its calming and lifting effect on the mood. 


Ylang Ylang Oil Uses and Benefits

  1. Help transform your dreary mood to a cheery mood by using Ylang Ylang essential oil. Whenever you are feeling down or stressed, apply a few drops of Ylang Ylang essential oil to the back of your neck for a calming and uplifting effect. Due to one of Ylang Ylang oil’s main chemical constituents, germacrene, the oil contains natural abilities to soothe. Ylang Ylang is also known for its uplifting effects and is a great oil to apply when in need of an elevating boost. 

  2. Don’t let the damaging heat of the summer prevent your hair from looking healthy and strong. Instead, use Ylang Ylang essential oil. Ylang Ylang oil is loaded with organic components that promote the appearance of healthy hair. To protect your hair from looking beat by the summer heat, massage Ylang Ylang into your scalp to increase the appearance of healthy, shiny hair.

  3. Fill your home with the rich and sweet scents of the tropical Ylang Ylang flower. This yellow, star-shaped flower is a gem of the aroma industry and its essential oil can be used to create a relaxing atmosphere. To obtain these delightful aromatic benefits, add a few drops of Ylang Ylang to your diffuser. This rich aroma will not just smell good, it will also lift your mood and promote a calming effect. 

  4. Soak your stresses away with an incredible bath that will invigorate your senses and promote relaxation. For an ultimate bath experience, put Ylang Ylang essential oil into an Epsom salt bath. Due to the calming and soothing properties of Ylang Ylang oil, this bath will be just what you need to help you unwind after a long day.

  5. Are you struggling to see the bright side of things? Use Ylang Ylang essential oil aromatically or topically for a more optimistic perspective. Ylang Ylang is a powerful uplifting component and helps promote a positive outlook. 

  6. Create the perfect massage blend for de-stressing with Ylang Ylang essential oil. Massages are a great way to help relax tense muscles and feelings and incorporating Ylang Ylang into your massage will provide the ultimate relaxing experience. Ylang Ylang is known and valued for its ability to soothe and calm the mood while also providing an uplifting effect. To create a powerful and effective massage blend that helps reduce the effects of daily stresses, add several drops of Ylang Ylang to Fractionated Coconut Oil and massage into your back and shoulders. 

  7. Avoid the harmful chemicals found in deep hair conditioners and deep hair conditioning treatments, and go natural! Create your very own natural deep hair conditioner by adding Ylang Ylang essential oil to Fractionated Coconut Oil and applying it to your hair. Ylang Ylang oil contains great hair benefits that will leave your hair looking healthy and beautiful!  

  8. Give your skin a little TLC with a Ylang Ylang essential oil aromatherapy steam facial. Steam facials are great for your skin. The heat from the steam helps open pores and, in the process, release bacteria and dirt from your skin. Including Ylang Ylang in your steam facial will help promote healthy looking skin and will also add a sweet scent to your DIY facial care.

  9. Ylang Ylang’s rich scent is well loved and has been used extensively for making perfumes. For a wonderful-smelling, natural perfume, put a drop or two of Ylang Ylang on your wrists. This perfume will also give off a soothing and calming aroma.  

  10. Support your body with Ylang Ylang essential oil. Ylang Ylang oil is known to provide antioxidant support.* To increase antioxidant support in your body, take Ylang Ylang oil internally.* 


Makeup setting spray is a great way to add hours of wear to your daily makeup routine. This natural recipe includes Lavender and Ylang Ylang oils, which both have soothing and rejuvenating properties for skin. Ingredients 3 tablespoons water 1 tablespoon witch hazel 1 tablespoon aloe vera juice 3 drops Lavender oil 3 drops Ylang Ylang oil

Instructions

  1. In a small glass spray bottle combine water, witch hazel, and aloe vera juice. Shake well to combine.

  2. Add Lavender and Ylang Ylang oil. Shake again to mix ingredients thoroughly.

  3. Apply to face after your regular makeup routine for hours of extended wear.

  4. Shake well before each use.


Other Floral Essential Oils

Clary Sage, Geranium, Helichrysum, Lavender, Roman Chamomile, and Ylang Ylang are all considered floral oils. Frequently used in perfumes, these oils come from the flower of their plant of origin, whether it be an herb or tree. This is with the exception of Geranium that comes from the flower as well as the rest of the plant.

Floral oils are steam distilled due to the delicate nature of their compounds that would be damaged in higher heat. However, only Clary Sage and Lavender share a similar chemical makeup with their main constituents being linalool and linalyl acetate. Each of the other floral oils possess their own unique chemical makeup. All of these oils can also be used aromatically, topically, or internally.

The common properties that the floral oils share include emotional benefits as well as benefits to the skin and hair. Lavender, Ylang Ylang, and Clary Sage have calming properties when you need stress-relief. To smooth or improve the appearance of skin, all you need is Geranium, Helichrysum, or Roman Chamomile. Clary Sage, Geranium, Roman Chamomile, or Ylang Ylang can all be added shampoo or conditioner (or massaged directly onto your scalp) to give your hair and scalp a healthy appearance.

Clary Sage

  • During your menstrual cycle, apply two to four drops to abdomen for a soothing abdominal massage

  • Apply one to two drops to the bottom of your feet or on pulse points to take advantage of the powerfully soothing aroma

  • Apply one to two drops to your pillow for a restful night’s sleep

Main Constituents: Linalyl acetate, linalool

Geranium

  • Combine with Fractionated Coconut Oil to give your partner a sensual massage

  • Apply under your arms after a sweaty workout or a day in the sun

  • Place one drop in the palm of your hands, rub hands together, and cup over nose and mouth and breathe slowly for a grounding effect

  • Add to your next DIY potpourri

  • Put a few drops on a cotton ball and place around your home to naturally repel insects

Main Constituents: Citronellol, citronellyl formate, geraniol

Helichrysum

  • Apply topically to reduce the appearance of blemishes

  • Apply to the face to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and to promote a glowing, youthful complexion

  • Use Helichrysum in conjunction with a full body massage to promote vitality and energy

  • Massage into the temples and back of neck for a soothing sensation

  • Take two drops in a veggie capsule, as it may help promote a healthy metabolism*

Main Constituents: Neryl acetate, alpha pinene, γ-curcumene

Lavender

  • Use directly on skin to soothe the occasional skin irritation, or to reduce the appearance of skin imperfections

  • Take in water or a veggie capsule to reduce anxious feelings and help ease feelings of tension*

  • Add a few drops of Lavender to pillows, bedding, or bottoms of feet for a restful night’s sleep

  • Refresh your mattress, car, or even the air with a light mist of a few drops Lavender combined with water in a spray bottle

  • Use in cooking to soften citrus flavors and add a flavorful twist to marinades, baked goods, and desserts

  • Take one to two drops internally in a veggie capsule for a peaceful sleep*

Main Constituents: Linalool, linalyl acetate

Roman Chamomile

  • Take one to two drops in water to soothe the systems of the body*

  • Has a calming effect on the mind and body when taken internally*

  • Taking one to two drops in a veggie capsule may help to support healthy immune system function*

  • Set the stage for sleep by diffusing one to two drops, or apply to the bottom of your feet at bedtime

  • Diffuse to soothe away feelings of anger and irritability

  • Apply to wrists and neck for a peaceful evening at home

  • Apply to chest over heart for feelings of well-being

Main Constituents: 4-methylamyl angelate, isobutyl angelate, isoamyl tiglate

Ylang Ylang

  • Add to doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil for a deep hair conditioner and beat the damaging summer heat

  • Diffuse two to four drops to promote a positive outlook

  • Take one to two drops internally for antioxidant support*

  • Create relaxing atmosphere by adding it to an Epsom salt bath to help you unwind

Main Constituents: Germacrene, caryophyllene
